CREATE CA – A Message for this Moment
We are living through unprecedented challenges. This is a crucial turning point for each of us to reflect on how we can stand against racism. As State Superintendent Tony Thurman stated, “We know implicit bias and racism exists in every sector in every sector of our society. We all have to commit to fighting for reform in our education system and providing the students of California with tools to create a better society. Student of color and those who are in low income experience significant barriers to access, participation, and success in arts learning which is directly linked to pervasive inequities in our education system.
Recognizing this, Create CA has launched a statewide effort to promote the Declaration of the Rights of All Students to Equity in Arts Learning among districts and organizations, which outlines each student’s right to have access to high-quality public arts education, regardless of their background, culture, language, or geographic location. You can take action by bringing the model resolution to your school board today for adoption. We stand with all of our education colleagues for every student’s right to high quality education, including the arts, as specified in the California Education Code. For more information, click here.
