Yosi Sergant has dedicated his career to engaging with the principle belief that, it is “through the lens of culture that we understand the world around us, and we can either shape that culture or allow it to shape us.” Sergant is considered by many one of the premier voices and most prolific producers of strategic cultural organizing and has been invited to speak at and consult with some of the most important foundations, universities, companies and think tanks worldwide.
Yosi has an extensive cross sector career with deep understanding of communications, public relations, brand management, marketing, community organizing and business development.
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Sergant engaged artists in a vast viral movement, supporting then candidate Senator Barack Obama, the most prominent of which is the now ubiquitous “HOPE poster” he commissioned and ran with artist Shepard Fairey. Sergant, commissioned and supported thousands of creative projects during the campaign with the intention of decentralizing endorsement to include people who normally don’t participate in the election process.
Following the election, Sergant served in the White House Office of Public Engagement before accepting an appointment as the Director of Communications for the National Endowment for the Arts.
In 2010, Sergant launched TaskForce, the premiere pro-social cultural organizing agency that engages leaders of the creative community in strategic, high-impact initiatives designed to raise awareness and build momentum for organizations tackling our world’s most pressing challenges.

Quote from Yosi:
“California has always been a beacon for dreamers, a home for creative industries and a state that invests in the vibrant futures of all its residents. TaskForce is thrilled to work with Create CA to ensure that legacy continues through a deep and meaningful investment in modern community organizing and creative communication strategies. The campaign will coalesce the various stakeholder organizations, industries and individuals that understand the role a quality arts education plays in shaping our state’s future.”
– Yosi Sergant, Founder of TaskForce
In an effort to expand arts learning access in rural communities statewide, we hope to gather educators, arts leaders, and community members from cross California to join in a discussion to further understand both the challenges and opportunities that exist in rural communities across the state.
What will we do in the Think Tank?
Explore how data can inform level of access in our rural
communities;
Hear about current research and implications for our field;
Learn about how some rural communities are developing
innovative practices to increase arts learning opportunities for pre-K through 12 students;
Share strategies to build support for arts learning both in discrete and integrated learning;
Engage in a public will campaign that is taking place in California; and
Collaborate with other educational leaders from across California.
Your Voice is Important
We hope that you will participate and share your insights and understandings as we explore together how to deepen and expand arts education for our students. How can we work together to make change?
Questions? Contact Jessie Kroll-Yoas at jyoas@ccsesa.org
Lunch is included.
“A review of the literature reveals several barriers to increasing access to arts education in rural areas, including lack of economic opportunity, geographic distance, recruitment and retention of teachers and administrators, lack of funding for arts education, policies that do not support the arts, limited collection and analysis of data, and lack of representation on creative economy initiatives.”

Welcome to Module 20: This module is about expanding access to music education and integration for students in Grades TK- 6 with diverse abilities through Universal Design for Learning.
The Presentation Chart will give you an entire overview of the module (available under Downloads).

California school districts have been undergoing change, incorporating Multi-Tiered System of Supports into their schools and district. This has decreased the population of students with IEPs in Special Day Classes, increasing the inclusion of students in classrooms throughout the district. Based on data attained from educator and administrator surveys, teachers, both general classroom and certificated specialist teachers, would like to learn how to provide quality arts instruction to all students in their classroom. They need the instructional strategies needed to allow the various types of learners access to arts learning, and would like to receive more professional learning in this topic.
Planning your Professional Learning (Content Outlines)
This professional development module will focus on three specific points:
- Developing teacher understanding of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, creating a flexible learning environment, instruction and assessment to accommodate individual learning differences.
- Expanding teacher knowledge of the characteristics of various learning barriers and styles of students with diverse abilities and strategies to support learning.
- Increasing teacher ability to create and deliver a music lesson incorporating UDL Guidelines, providing Kindergarten, 2nd , and 5th Grade music lessons as a supporting example
Module Outcome: Teachers will be able to develop and deliver music education or integration lessons incorporating UDL to support access to curriculum and learning for students with diverse abilities in their class.
