Regional Arts Lead Named

Through a regional protocol Region 5 County Superintendents named Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) as the Region 5 Regional Arts Lead.  Hamish Tyler, Director of MCOE’s Media Center for Arts, Education & Technology, will serve as the CCSESA Regional Arts Lead for Region 5.  Some of Hamish’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Helping to create a state of the art, 21st century video/television studio that provides Arts and entertainment for numerous county student programs. The studio programs and produces for three television stations, a radio station and numerous other digital platforms. The studio also supports a 65ft “Techmobile” truck/trailer combination with 23 individual computing stations, capable of delivering training for language and computer literacy, citizenship, video games and much more.
  • Helping to create the Millennium Charter High School, Monterey’s first high school charter offering an arts and technology, project based curriculum. MCHS opened in August with 105 9th and 10th graders. The MCHS staff received a very comprehensive and thorough two week professional development program offered by Dr. Victoria Stevens. Dr. Stevens also helped develop the MCHS curriculum.
  • Recently receiving the Arts Council for Monterey County, Arts Educator of the Year award.

Hamish has been very active in supporting arts learning for K-12 students and was instrumental in creating an advocacy toolkit and afterschool resource for the CCSESA Arts Initiative.   These can be found at:
